FAN DEATH

Fascinating. I was looking online for a place to buy a nice big window fan, the kind that sucks in a lot of air from outside and can really cool a whole room. They don't seem to sell them so much any more. Maybe everyone uses air conditioning.

Anyway, I stumbled on a Korean belief called Fan Death:

Fan Death is the belief that if you sleep in a closed room with a fan running, you will suffocate.

There's even a FanDeath.net .

I can state confidently that Fan Death is not true. We have a family full of people who insist on breathing moving air at night. We mostly leave the windows open at night, but even in the winter when it's too cold for that, some of us use fans.

None of us has died of it yet.

I can't guarantee lack of brain damage, though. Maybe that's what's wrong with us. Fan Dementia.
