KITTEN UPDATE

I think I posted earlier that three of our four dropped-off-at-a-church-in-a-box kittens were going to be picked up by their new owners on Christmas Day.

Well, one was actually picked up. The other two were supposed to go together, to someone we'll call Jane. Jane remembered that she has a grandchild that is allergic to longhaired cats, but seems to do okay with shorthaired cats. Everyone at work claimed that Jane is a great pet owner who would get a cat spayed and vaccinated and keep it as a pampered house pet. An opportunity not to be missed.

So, we gave Jane the shorthaired kitten that the college kids found on their porch, the one that we took in a few weeks before the four showed up.

Okay. So she took that kitten. She brought it in today to be spayed and vaccinated, and she says she just loves it. So that worked out.

We still have the other three. I got tired of talking to people who "might" take one but (pick one) don't like black cats, don't like longhaired cats, say they want one but don't call back, whatever. So I quit looking for new homes for them.

They are unusually nice kittens: very friendly, longish fluffy hair, extra toes (a cute feature). I had reached a point where I was relieved when someone backed out of taking one, anyway, so they are ours.

The vet I work for does free vet care on his employees' pets. He spayed, neutered, declawed, and finished vaccinating two of them yesterday. Still have to get the Siamese and the fourth black kitty updated on everything, and we'll be set for a while. On cats, anyway.

We lost two cats in the past year and a half (that means they died, not disappeared). We were down to two, and one of those is about fifteen years old, tottering feebly around the house and looking like he's not long for this world. That meant we'd soon be down to just one.

I was determined to stick with one, to not to get any more cats. Now we've started over. Counting the two we had before and the four kittens we've recently acquired, we have six cats. I guess we'll have cats for another fifteen years. Oh, well.
