IS IT MOTHER'S DAY ALREADY?

Dear me. I guess I don't post as much as I should. It seems like I just did a Mother's Day post, and here we are again.

As usual, Mother's Day is the occasion for young children to present their mothers with the traditional Mother's Day school craft project: sprouted seeds that die. Okay, maybe some of them make it. Ours never do.

This year's sproutlings, brought home Friday, are on the way out already because the children, after zealously overwatering them, left them out in the rain to be further overwatered. Why don't the teachers put holes in the bottoms of the cups?

I would like to cast my vote for painted rocks as the future Mother's Day school craft of choice. They would be inexpensive to make, and long-lasting. You could use a painted rock for a paperweight or a bookend. Or, you could put it outside with your flower pots. It would be every bit as decorative as a Dixie cup full of mud.
