(1) How children's personalities are revealed through everyday conversation:
Lillie: "There's a first-grade girl that thinks she's (voice grows hushed) POPLIAR."
Francie, growling: "I'm gonna punch her!"
(2) Things we hope the children never tell anyone working for social services:
Lillie: "Francie and me share germs sometimes."
Mom, thinking: Well, of course, they probably drink out of the same glasses and stuff. Kids will be kids.
Lillie continues: "Sometimes we touch our tongues together."
Mom, thinking: Oh, dear.
